Counseling Announcements

May is Mental Health Awareness Month
1 in 5 Americans will be affected by a mental health condition in their lifetime and everyone is affected or impacted through their friends and family.   Many people living with mental health conditions don’t feel comfortable talking to their friends and family about what they’re dealing with.  Check out the National Alliance on Mental Health website to find out how we can work together to create a Stigma Free society.

The LHS Counseling and Social Work Department is available to talk with parents and students about resources.  Students are welcome to talk with their counselor about struggles and issues affecting their school day.

Sophomores: Did you enroll in a dual credit class for next year?
It is a good idea for students enrolling in dual credit classes for next year to take the ACT in June. Many of our dual credit partner universities and colleges require an ACT score to register for the dual credit portion of the course to earn college credit. Visit www.actstudent.org to register before the May 5 deadline!

Seniors - Are you planning to attend Maple Woods Community College?

  • Contact Sierra Warren at Sierra.Warren@mcckc.edu to set up your START (Student Advising and Registration Time) session.  At START students will receive information about how to build a successful schedule, work with an academic advisor to discuss goals and identify the first semester classes they will take, and receive information about paying for college.
  • Students with a 3.5 GPA and 26 ACT  are encouraged to check out the new Honors Program HERE. Benefits include a scholarship and textbook allowance.
