I grew up in Liberty and graduated from Liberty High School in 1988. After graduating high school I attended Central Missouri State University to study art education. After two years of college I was out of money so I joined the US Army Reserves. After basic training and AIT I returned to college but switched my area of study to science education and in 1994 graduated with my BSE in Earth Science and a Minor in Biology.
In that same year I transferred from the Army Reserve to the Air Force Reserve and also began teaching science at Jefferson Junior High School in Columbia Missouri. Over the next 10 years I taught 7th through 9th grade in Columbia, received an associates degree in construction management from the Community College of the Air Force and earned my Masters of Education for Curriculum Development in Creative Arts from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In 2004 I moved back to Liberty and got a job teaching Ceramics, Sculpture, Art Fundamentals, Drawing I, Physical Science and Biology at Excelsior Springs High School. Over the next three years I taught in Excelsior Springs and was deployed for 6 months to Iraq. In 2007 I took a job teaching 8th grade science at South Valley Junior High where I taught for two years. In 2009 I began teaching Introduction to Art and 3D Design at Liberty Junior High. In 2011 I was once again deployed by the Air Force, this time to Afghanistan for 6 months. 2013 introduced several changes to my life when I retired from the military after nearly 24 years of service. I also moved to Liberty High School in order to teach a Science, Technology and Society class as well as Zoology.
This year I am excited to remain at Liberty High School teaching Biology and Zoology. I now spend all of my free time with my two wonderful children that are students in the Liberty Public Schools. In our time not spent at soccer games, basketball games, dance and cheer, we enjoy hiking, biking and traveling.
